S'mores Crescent Roll Pinwheel Cookies
I was having friends over for a get-together and one of my go-to snacks is the crescent roll veggie pizza. I just happened to have a coupon for $1 off three cans of Pillsbury crescent rolls, but you only need two cans for the pizza. What to do with the leftover can?
I did some searching on Pinterest for ideas and I kept finding all these recipes for pinwheels, both savory and sweet. But none appealed to me. So, I went for my old standby...s'mores.
First thing I did was spray foil with cooking spray. Crescent dough can be sticky and we are in the midst of a warm, humid Indian summer, making this experiment more difficult that I had anticipated.
I rolled the dough out on the foil and pressed the seams together.
Using an offset spatula I spread Nutella on half and marshmallow fluff on the other half.
A lot of s'mores themed recipes I've found over the years just use chocolate and marshmallows, they so often omit the graham crackers. As far as I'm concerned, the graham crackers add a necessary flavor and crunch to s'mores goodies. So I sprinkled graham cracker crumbs over the filling.
Then, very carefully, I rolled the dough up, starting at the long end. The heat and humidity made this difficult, but going slowly, I was able to make it work.
I sealed the foil around the dough and stuck it in the freezer for an hour. This made it easier to cut.
I'm not going to lie, these cookies were messy to cut.
I baked them in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
After letting them cool, these cookies were sweet and chewy.
